Fort Worth Goes on Mission to Mexico

The Fort Worth church was invited to go on a mission by Pastor Mike Hilton of the Crossroads Baptist Church. We accepted that invitation and had 8 volunteers sign up of which six were adults and two were teens.

It took fourteen hours to get from Fort Worth to Saltillo, Codhuila Mexico. When we got there we were assigned to help with the Vacation Bible School that the Iglesia Pentecostes Lanaje Escogido church.

The first night that we were there we presented Pastor Luis a gift from the Fort Worth Church. The next day the children were organized in to a parade and we paraded through the neighborhood carrying the flag of Mexico, singing, making noise with the tambourine, and handing out balloons. This brought some of the kids into the parade and some more went to the church for the Vacation Bible School.

The theme of the Bible Study was that you can trust God. They used book of Daniel as the example. When Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego were captured in Babylon, they refused to eat the king's food and God took care of them then. Then again in the lions den and again in the fiery furnace.

Each day after Vacation Bible School lessons were complete would then teach the children English as a second language. I don't know who learned the most. Us, because they would tell us how to say the words in Spanish, or the children because we would tell them how to say the words in English. But we all had a great time learning.

At night we would have a revival and Pastor Tom would give the sermons and have an alter call after each sermon.

After the last lesson of Vacation Bible School, they asked the children if they wanted to give their lives to Jesus. There were twenty two children eagerly wanting to gave their lives to Jesus and Pastor Luis let us have the privilege of laying hands on the new Christians and praying for them.

One night while we were there Pastor Luis took us up on a hill and we prayed for the city.

Our host was very grateful that we had come to their church. He told us that they have received money from the United States before, but this is the first time that some people also came down to help them. They transported us, fed us lunch and dinner everyday.

We learned that it doesn't take a lot of material things to praise God. They didn't even have finished church and Jesus was their among us. You could feel the Holy Spirit during their praise and worship section of the service (which was all done by without music) and during the sermon. A great lesson was learned by all
